I had a great time running a preservation basics workshop in conjunction with the Museum & Galleries Queensland conference, right here in Cairns!
My great group of 10 attendees ran through a bit of theory on mould, using gloves in handling collection material and the do’s and don’t’s of basic preservation methods – don’t use old bread to clean your archive documents!
We all jumped on the tools after a demo and chat about basic book cleaning and good house keeping tips. We talked about basic preservation measures and substitutes if you can’t afford the archival price tag in your own organisation.
Everyone walked away with a smile, some sweet new skills in encapsulating fragile documents and an archival pack to take back to their organisation.
Thanks for the team spirit everyone, the conference was great and it was such a pleasure to meet you all.
Contact me if you would like to hear more about the workshop outline or if you would like to discuss more workshop options….or if you want to know what the cheese grater was used for 😬
I would like to thank the QLD M&G conference organisers for inviting me to run this workshop for conference attendee’s and Cairns Historical Society for the provision of a beautiful workshop space.
“Umm – no, don’t use bread to clean your archive collections, but I will show you how a cheese grater can be useful!”
