The Process

Humans have meaningful connection with objects, and we always will.

When you work with Sorenson Art Conservation, your most precious keepsakes and collections will be treated with the utmost respect they inherently deserve. Each project is taken care of by the same expert, Melanie Sorenson, from beginning to end.

Consultation appointments are the first step and can either be in person at my Cairns studio or via photos sent through email.

During a consultation, I listen to your story and we find out the details of the steps required to care for your item. We discuss the amount of time it will take to treat your item.

All consultations are free of charge.

Your treatment includes documentation of the item in its current condition, photographing before and after treatment and treatments undertaken. All treatments undertaken are to museum standard and are aligned with the AICCM code of ethics for conservators.

Your item will have my undivided attention, care, skill and patience throughout the treatment. I work completely by hand, using the very best handmade materials sourced worldwide, and tools created in-house also by hand.

All items are quoted on a time per hour basis.

I will meet with you during and at the end of the process to ensure that you enjoy the return of your item and feel confident in caring for it in the future.

Your heirloom will continue to carry its intangible heritage and live on in history as an item of value to you! After all, it is through the appreciation of the past, that we can conserve for the future.
